In Calgary, the “White Hat” ceremony is considered the equivalent of the keys to the city. Since 1949, Calgary has conducted white hat ceremonies to welcome dignitaries from around the world.
Past recipients have included:
Queen Elizabeth II, William and Catherine, the Prince and Princess of Wales, world leaders like Tony Blair, Bill Clinton, and George W., Bush; the Dali Lama, Pope John Paul II, and entertainers such as Bob Dylan, Bob Hope, Marilyn Monroe, Luciano Pavarotti, Oprah Winfrey, Kevin Costner, Walt Disney and even Mickey Mouse.
Now it’s your turn.
We would like to extend a personal invitation to each of you to come and experience this unique tradition first-hand. What size cowboy hat do I get?
Place the string or tape around your head about 1/8″ above your ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head. Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly. If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the next largest size.

- Large 7 1/4 – 7 3/8
- X-Large 7 1/2 – 7 3/4
